“Operations keeps the lights on, strategy provides a light at the end of the tunnel, but project management is the train engine that moves the organization forward.”– Joy Gumz

The Key Steps To Success

  • Research
  • Identify
  • Present
  • Plan
  • Implement and Deliver
  • Review

Research

Researching a project involves identifying a clear objective, conducting primary and secondary reviews to gather relevant information, and selecting appropriate methods such as surveys, interviews, or data analysis. Organize findings systematically, evaluate sources critically, and ensure ethical considerations are met.

Identify

The identification phase will define criteria like quality, cost, reliability, and delivery timelines. Evaluate potential suppliers, evaluate them through requests for proposals (RFPs), and analyse responses. Conduct site visits where applicable, assess performance history, and verify certifications. Compare options, negotiate terms, and prioritize suppliers that align with organizational goals and values.

Present

This phase will demonstrate how the proposal addresses company goals, shows value, and anticipates questions. It is made to the key stakeholders and provides the information and research to allow an informed decision to proceed to be made and includes the mitigation of risk

Plan

Creating a milestone plan involves defining key project phases and objectives. Break the project into tasks, assigning deadlines to each milestone. Use a timeline or Gantt chart to visualize dependencies. Ensure milestones are measurable and realistic, aligning with project goals. Regularly review progress and adjust timelines to address challenges effectively.

Implement and Deliver

The implementation phase involves executing the project plan, coordinating tasks, and managing resources. Regular communication ensures alignment through team meetings, progress reports, and status updates. Feedback is promptly addressed, refinements or adjustments made, and stakeholder engagement is maintained to ensure a smooth and successful rollout.

Review

Following completion, a project or process is revisited through a post-implementation review. Feedback is gathered from stakeholders and team members to identify successes and challenges. Analyse metrics, document lessons learned, and recommend improvements for future projects to enhance efficiency, quality, and overall performance.
